- Supports persons served to build on their strengths and pursue meaningful goals, using a trauma-informed, person-centered approach that supports insight, reduces barriers, and encourages collaborative problem-solving
- Develops individualized housing plans with persons served and sets short-term/long-term goals to achievement, providing regular check-ins and intentional conversations
- Engages with landlords, property managers, and housing providers to establish working relationships and maintain knowledge of housing opportunities
- Supports with completing housing applications, lease signings, and other necessary documentation
- Accompanies persons served on viewings (when required) and advocates on their behalf with private and public housing providers
- Facilitates training and provides coaching on housing search tools, sustainability such as tenancy rights and responsibilities, budgeting, and household management
- Supports in acquiring necessary start-up items (e.g., furniture, utilities).
- Serves as a resource for persons served and Shelter staff
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives
- Minimum 2-year Diploma/Degree in Human Services (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years’ related professional experience.
- Degree in A Social Work discipline would be an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships, and experience supporting families.
- Knowledge of the impact of homelessness on families and barriers to accessing and maintaining housing.
- Knowledge of the tenancy act and of landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities.
- Awareness of and sensitivity towards those with diverse needs and understanding trauma and implementing practices that provide cultural safety, choice, and empowerment.
- Proven ability to provide effective communication, collaboration, crisis intervention, and conflict management with clients.
- Demonstrated assessment, problem solving, critical thinking skills and appropriate judgment skills
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, practice standards, and practice guidelines
- Intermediate competency with Microsoft Office and other Agency computer applications.
- Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Proven case documentation and effective information reporting practices.
- A reliable Vehicle, Valid Driver’s License (held for a minimum of 2 years), Vehicle Registration and Third Party Liability Insurance (amount of two million).
- Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search, and Intervention Record Check current within six (6) months.
- Summary of driving record with no more than six (6) demerit points current within one (1) year.
- The salary for this position is $24.21 to $27.24 per hour based on qualifications and experience
