- Research history and context of creation of Two-Spirit records
- Appraise material and select records for retention
- Physically process records (ex. remove staples/paper clips, rehouse boxes and folders)
- Arrange and organize records into series and sub-series
- Describe records at fonds, series, subseries, file, and item level (if needed)
- Create finding aids for collections using Manitoba Archival Information Network
- Conduct literature review relating to implementing best practices for describing 2S/trans/gender-diverse records
- Conduct research based on results of literature review
- Write report providing recommendations for implementation of improved metadata practices relating to these communities
- Review record descriptions requiring donor input
- Record information provided by donor
- Update finding aids to incorporate donor-generated metadata
- Research and respond to reference requests relating to the Two-Spirit Archives
- Assist as needed in planning events related to Two-Spirit Archives (ex. Pride Festival)
- Undergraduate degree in the fields of history, cultural studies, Indigenous studies, or women’s and gender studies is required
- An interest in pursuing a Master’s degree in the fields of archival studies or library and information studies is preferred
- Prior experience working in archives preferred
- Prior experience with AtoM software preferred
- Prior project work and/or project management experience preferred
- Prior experience conducting research in an academic environment preferred
- Prior experience working with Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, or other marginalized communities preferred
- Knowledge of archives description standards and best practices preferred
- Ability to easily learn new technologies required
- Ability to listen carefully and pay attention to detail required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
- Flexible, adaptable, reliable, and organized required
- Must meet the requirements of the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations employment program for students including:
- being a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
- being legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
- being between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
- being a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
