Type: Full-Time, PermanentAbout the OpportunitySRA Staffing is hiring a Knowledge Engineer (Intermediate–Senior) on behalf of a leading healthcare technology organization focused on improving clinical decision-making and healthcare quality measurement globally.The Knowledge Engineer is responsible for expressing medical specifications as data queries using software languages designed to be accessible to non-technical individuals. These queries are used by healthcare systems worldwide to support providers in making informed clinical decisions and measuring healthcare quality.Role OverviewThe Knowledge Engineer researches and translates complex healthcare specifications into simplified healthcare code. This role involves working with healthcare data models (FHIR), healthcare logic expressions (CQL), and definitional frameworks to accurately represent clinical policies and decision-support logic.The position also includes designing and executing structured test plans, generating sample data, analyzing results, and refining specifications through iterative feedback. Cross-functional collaboration with clinicians, healthcare specialists, and terminologists is central to the role.Key ResponsibilitiesWrite simplified healthcare code to represent healthcare specifications.Research innovative healthcare data models (FHIR), healthcare logic expressions (CQL), and definitional models to correctly express healthcare specifications.Design test plans to ensure the code generates accurate and compliant data (FHIR).Generate sample data to exercise defined test plans and criteria (FHIR).Collaborate cross-functionally with healthcare specialists, clinicians, and terminologists to understand and implement requirements (L1/L2) and validate implementations (L3).Provide expert feedback on prior authorization policies, including analysis of complexity, scope, and effort.Identify and capture best practices and lessons learned.Accurately track and report working hours in the Time Tracking System, ensuring billable utilization targets are met and project management tools are properly utilized.Comply with privacy, security, and confidentiality policies.What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience as a clinical informaticist, data scientist, software developer or another relevant role.
- Post-Secondary education in computer science or a related field of study or comparable related work experience.
- Healthcare technology experience is required.
- Experience with Clinical Decision Support algorithms is preferred.
- Experience with Clinical Quality measures is highly preferred.
- Prior Authorization Adjudication Algorithms experience is beneficial.
- Experience with FHIR is highly preferred.
- Experience with query language(s), such as SQL, would be considered an asset.
- Excellent computer literacy skills and abilities.
- Strong collaborative and verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven creative problem-solving and critical thinking with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- High level of self-motivation, drive, and enthusiasm coupled with integrity and professionalism.
- Experience in programming and/or programming tools is preferred, but not required.
