UNDERWRITER – NATIONAL CARRIERS – BERMUDA – 10% TAX – HR903About this opportunityOur client is looking for an individual to fill their Underwriter, National Carriers Position. In this role, you will be responsible for the production, marketing, and analysis of Property reinsurance within their National Carriers team. The ideal candidate will bring a robust global background, with well-established broker and client relationships across the US and International markets. They will collaborate and partner across the broader underwriting team and play a key role in internal coordination for the organization's National Carrier clients. Drawing on deep expertise and market experience you will contribute thought leadership internally and externally, representing the company's client-focused underwriting approach. As a member of the team, the successful candidate will also be expected to train, mentor, and develop our junior talent.The role is based in the Bermuda office and will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues worldwide, including teams in New York, Miami, and Zurich.Your responsibilities:
  • Analyze, model, and make risk decisions across property per risk, pro rata, and catastrophe reinsurance programs
  • Make informed underwriting decisions in alignment with the company's risk appetite and client-centric strategy
  • Utilize third-party vendor models to evaluate, compare, and report reinsurance transactions, while critically challenging and supplementing modeled results with additional data
  • Proactively monitor reinsurance profitability by deal, client, and portfolio throughout their life cycle
  • Rapidly synthesize & understand our client and broker needs and shape how the company delivers solutions
  • Maintain and grow strong broker and client relationships, maintaining regular and meaningful interaction, leading effective meetings and discussions, and communicating the company strategy
  • Develop relationships and work closely with Property, Casualty, and Specialty underwriting teams to enable effective internal coordination across reinsurance transactions
  • Drive process improvements, enhance communication, and ensure timely completion of reports, budgeting, and planning on a quarterly basis
  • Stay informed on industry developments, emerging risks and competitor activity to inform underwriting strategy
  • Contribute to the design and development of the company tools that will enable improved analyses, reporting, and insights at multiple levels
  • Lead, mentor, and train analysts and junior team members to foster a high-performance culture
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and panels to elevate our client's Reinsurance's profile and thought leadership within the reinsurance industry
What you'll need
  • Minimum 7-10 years of reinsurance underwriting or broking experience, with deep knowledge of global insurance and reinsurance markets
  • Undergraduate degree required, ideally within a quantitative discipline such as science, engineering, economics, finance, mathematics, or statistics; relevant advanced degree in business or hard sciences preferred
  • Strong understanding of actuarial principles, knowledge of relevant vendor models (i.e. Verisk & Moody's), and ability to critically evaluate and price complex risk
  • Underwriting experience, Property QS, CAT & Risk
  • Experience across US & Global Treaty Reinsurance
  • Multiline experience in Casualty or Specialty beneficial
  • MGA or Programs background beneficial
  • Excess & Surplus Lines background beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of policy wordings
  • Reputation and proven track record in managing and strengthening relationships with global brokers and clients
  • Ability to multi-task in a timely, accurate manner and provide feedback efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates innovation, thought leadership, drive and creativity, drawing on other resources where needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; expert level influencing and negotiating skills
  • Able to lead and work collaboratively within a team environment as well as an individual contributor across diverse teams
  • Demonstrates sensitivity, respects cultural differences, and acts in an ethical manner at all times
