- Directly apply and develop knowledge in mechanical design
- Perform finite element analysis on various furnace components and systems, including thermal analysis of cooling system elements;
- Co-ordinate designs with a multi-disciplinary team including structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and instrumentation and controls.
- Contribute to the design and improvement of various types of mechanical equipment and technologies, including copper coolers, electrode columns and furnace sealing equipment;
- Perform calculations for a variety of mechanical systems including machinery components, hydraulic systems, and cooling water systems;
- Become familiar in reviewing fabrication and construction drawings; and
- Improve technical communication and report writing skills
- Must be in third or fourth year of a Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited university
- Demonstrate strong academic performance;
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Have an aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams; and
- Enjoy taking on new challenges with a commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
- Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community
- Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects
- Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges
