This role involves extensive fieldwork and occasional travel to perform noise and vibration measurements using laboratory-grade equipment and instrumentation. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities for the maintenance and management of Stantec’s acoustic instrumentation and equipment recovery process.Stantec will provide and support technical training for those with an applicable background in electronics or acoustic measurement equipment (e.g., microphones).Stantec supports a safe working environment, especially when the field work of staff is involved, and attention to health and safety is expected of the candidate.Your Key ResponsibilitiesEquipmentResearch and review equipment standards (e.g., ISO, ANSI) related to noise and vibration equipmentUnderstand acoustic equipment required for measurement of noise and vibration, including sound level meters, noise monitors, vibration measurement equipment (e.g., Coco), vibration monitors, and building acoustics measurementsAble and willing to specialize in niche measurement (e.g., multi-channel vibration conditioning, sound intensity measurement) equipmentLearn equipment manuals and attend supplier training as providedWorking with our technical suppliers to calibrate and repair equipment and investigate equipment measurement anomalies as they arise.Organize and maintain equipment storage space.Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment locations to enable supporting other team members for project planningDeveloping equipment usage budgets for inclusion in project proposalsCoordinating equipment recovery tracking to retain project funds to support the instrumentationSupport standard operating procedures for instrumentation applicationsManage all equipment calibration and other documentation for retrieval and review by Stantec engineersProvide in-office training to staff for equipment usage and storageDesign and build custom equipment enclosures or installation plans, if required, to conduct specialized measurementsField WorkOrganize and coordinate equipment for projects, including ensuring equipment is available and/or coordinating rentals for additional equipment needsPrepare Health and Safety documentation related to field workConduct field measurements using noise/vibration instrumentationAvailable for field work requiring travel and extended periods away (e.g., weeks to months)Able and willing to perform field work requiring night shift and overnight workAbility to be available for field work on an on-call basis (e.g,. within 24 hours)Perform field work in all seasons, under various field conditions (e.g., snow)Coordinate and remotely train local Stantec field staff, who may be unfamiliar with instrumentation and field workDownload and analyze noise and vibration dataPrepare data (e.g., spreadsheets) for Stantec engineers to interpret and analyzePrepare monitoring and measurement reports for Stantec engineersWork with the Stantec digital resource team to develop and automate templates using MSWord and Excel macros for reporting and data analysisYour Capabilities and CredentialsExperience or education in electronics and/or instrumentation; either technical college (e.g., mechanical or electrical) or electronics apprenticeExperience with the use of sound measurement equipment (e.g., studio engineering) may also be consideredDesire to work with instrumentation, including repair and diagnosis of the equipmentSkilled in small electronics repair (e.g., soldering) would be an assetDesire to conduct field work, as there will be extensive outdoor work (with exposure to the elements) required for the positionAvailable to be away for periods (weeks, months) to complete field work requiredPossession of a valid driver’s license and passport, as international travel (e.g,. US) will be requiredAccess or ownership of a personal car/vehicle is requiredProven organizational skills, tracking equipment, and representing the measurement data is requiredCreative, organize,d and able to multitask while working independentlyDiligent and detail-oriented with the desire to learnFlexible schedule is required for travel related to site surveysWorking knowledge of software (e.g., Microsoft Office, CAD, etc.).Experience with automation programming or macros is an assetExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Education and ExperienceTechnical degree at a college level (e.g., CET) would be an assetExperience in electronics and/or sound equipment will also be consideredTypical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
