Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will design and develop mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical components for cutting-edge retinal imaging products. Working within a small, multidisciplinary team, the engineer will transform early prototypes into robust, cost-effective, and manufactural designs at the component, sub-system, and system levels.Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical assemblies including optomechanical, electromechanical, and mechatronic sub-systems.
- Create detailed CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, with precise tolerance and revision control.
- Conduct tolerance stack-ups and analyses to ensure performance and reliability.
- Prototype and test designs for form, fit, function, and quality.
- Contribute to risk management activities such as FMEA and hazard analysis.
- Maintain design control documentation aligned with ISO 13485 and internal quality standards
- Select materials and processes to optimize cost, safety, performance, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with R&D and Operations to develop tooling, jigs, fixtures, and validation protocols for production.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within regulated industries (medical devices, life sciences, aerospace, or military).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and mechanical modelling, including thermal management and precision tolerance.
- Strong grasp of DFM/DFA principles.
- Experience in designing for precision optical and electronic systems, including illumination, lens mounting, alignment tools, and scanning mechanisms.
