Posting Period: 03-Sep-2025 to 17-Sep-2025Job Summary:The business intelligence consultant is responsible for leading the Epidemiology and Data Analytics Unit (EDAU)'s transition of its code to the R language from existing software program languages. They will migrate code (SAS to R), develop products, and provide R language technical support and training to both epidemiology teams within the EDAU.Major Responsibilities:
- Works closely with EDAU teams to develop and transition code for products currently using SAS or STATA to R programming language.
- Prepares documentation, reports, presentations, related to projects and activities.
- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
- Provides consultation and guidance on creating top-quality clean code and participates in peer-to-peer code review.
- Prepares reports for management in relation to changes in business technology solutions.
- Plans and executes assigned projects (i.e. defines purpose, objectives, project activities, milestones and deliverables, monitors work performance and tracks progress to ensure project goals and timelines are met).
- Meets timelines and milestones by monitoring deliverables. Accurately identifies resource requirements and potential risks. Supports research projects and data mining, including trends analysis.
- Follows all privacy protocols regarding sensitive data, information storage and extraction.
- Creates contingency plans both for business and system interruptions and supports business continuity planning.
- Creates reports and consults with the Managers regarding data analysis protocols and recommendations.
- Maintains a data dictionary of all valid, tested and repeatable data and/or information products.
- Develops, implements and applies sound information management standards, procedures and tools to provide consistent, accurate, timely information.
- Liaises with information providers throughout the City and other municipalities to develop and share information on R coding language.
- Knowledge of epidemiological principles and practices.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, facilitation and conflict management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports and briefing notes, and develop presentations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, foster relationships with stakeholders within Toronto Public Health and in other city divisions and external organizations.
- Ability to handle challenging and time-sensitive assignments in a high profile professional and political environment.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
- Experience with Python and SQL+ is an asset.
