Under the general supervision of the Director of Proposals & Estimating and/or Bid Managers, this position has the responsibility to prepare and deliver compliant and comprehensive construction cost estimates, methodologies, execution plans, projects risks, assumptions, and clarifications for various scopes relating to nuclear / industrial construction projects. The Estimator will be required to develop detailed compilations and summaries of direct construction hours, engage with multiple subcontractors, material suppliers and rental companies and be able to present their results logically and thoroughly to management for approval.What you will be doing:Work effectively in a team environment and support other estimators and mangers in the departmentAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusionsDevelop strategies and scope breakdown structures to support the estimate development processSupport the Bid Manager throughout the entire duration of the proposal / estimate development processParticipation and understanding of both design/build and “build-to-spec” contractsReview and interpret project drawings, specifications, lists, and other technical documentationAbility to conceptualize construction plans / methodologies that define how to construct and/or install equipment or complete an activity and translate those concepts into realistic estimate summaries.Create sketches, drawings and specifications to support the estimating processCompile RFIs during and/or after the document reviewsResponsible for the accurate take-off of quantities preparation of detailed estimates while following company policies and estimating proceduresUtilize construction estimating software to compile detailed estimate informationEstimate Preparation – labour hours / headcounts, material costs; tools & equipment costs; scheduling durations; and compile bid packages for subcontractors and/or equipment suppliersAnalyzes sub-trade quotations, liaison with subcontractors for clarification of issuesAttend estimate kick-off and approval meetings with management to review estimate details, assumptions, and risk factorsDetermine estimated construction durations for job forecasting and project schedulingAttend walkdowns / site visits to understand project scopeMaintain estimating information to establish historical database references, including information on prices from equipment vendors, material suppliers and/or subcontractors.Superior time management with the ability to meet deadlinesEffective communication in English with ability to develop and write reports, summaries, presentations and standard business correspondence.Conduct and complete specialized nuclear training (i.e. Orange Badge)What you must have:Minimum 5 years of large capital project estimating experience within the Industrial or Nuclear construction industriesIneight Estimate software experience is preferred and knowledge of estimating, and take off programs are beneficial (i.e. Excel, OST Pro, Bluebeam, etc.)Strong estimating background, preferably on major construction / maintenance projectsExceptional organizational and time management skillsStrong communication skills, both oral and writtenCommon sense, concentration, imagination, ability to read and understand drawings, self assurance, responsible attitude, and leadership qualitiesGood knowledge of subcontracting processesUnderstanding of unionized trade agreementsAbility to work in a multi-tasking and multi-disciplined team environmentEducation: Construction Engineering Technologist or Trade Certification or Gold Seal Certificate (Estimating) or equivalent experienceSalary/Rate Range: $110,000 – $130,000For more information about TEEMA and to consider other career opportunities, please visit our website at
