
General Accountant

- Period end close:
- Key contributor in the month-end and year-end close process for all StarTech.com entities.
- Responsible for ensuring all key balance sheet accounts are reconciled, all journal entries are accurately posted, and that all liabilities are recorded for period end in a timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining fixed asset register and accurately recoding amortization monthly.
- Accounts payable processing:
- Support accounts payable with processing invoices, ensuring accurate coding and approvals are obtained in accordance with the corporate purchase order policy.
- Verify vendor accounts by reconciling statements and resolving account discrepancies by collaborating with vendors to investigate issues in a timely manner.
- Process payments and invoices while ensuring proper coding, obtaining approvals, and verifying invoice details against purchase order and receiving documents.
- Assist with month-end activities. Maintain financial records.
- Expense management:
- Manage the company’s expense management system, ensuring all transactions are valid and recorded accurately.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding expense-related and credit card program inquiries (managing card limits, new card applications, etc.).
- Train employees on proper expense submission procedures and credit card platform usage.
- Financial reporting:
- Responsible for assisting in the preparation of all month-end financial reporting according to the deadlines set by the organization, including; balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, inventory reporting, customer & regional profitability statements, and variance reporting.
- Support for organization:
- Responsible for providing accounting support, financial analysis and guidance to the organization, including transaction history reports, variance analysis, and reconciliations.
- Responsible for contributing to projects throughout the organization including understanding and identifying the financial impact of a project and required changes on key business processes.
- Community college diploma in Accounting and Finance or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of significant accounting experience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills (the ability to maintain a calendar of multiple deadlines and independently manage their time to complete tasks by the required deadlines).
- Strong computer skills with advanced level MS Excel skills.
- Experience in accounting/maintenance of accounting records, reconciliations of accounting records, and preparation of information for auditors.
- Strong attention to detail.
- A desire to learn and to grow one’s knowledge, and an ability to take initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working towards a CPA designation or equivalent would be considered an asset
