- Operate the launching gantry to lift, move, and accurately position precast bridge segments along girders and piers.
- Manipulate controls to regulate speed, direction, and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
- Conduct segment placement in span‑by‑span, incremental launching, or balanced‑cantilever erection methods as required by project design.
- Inspection, Maintenance & Pre‑Operational Checks
- Perform daily inspections of structural components, hoisting systems, cables, hydraulic systems, electrical elements, and safety mechanisms.
- Address wear, corrosion, or damage immediately to ensure safe operation.
- Complete routine maintenance tasks and maintain accurate logs of operations and maintenance activities.
- Load Management & Safety Control
- Calculate and verify correct load distribution to prevent structural overload and ensure system stability.
- Interpret load charts and technical documents to determine optimal lifting configurations.
- Identify and report hazards, equipment malfunctions, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Communication & Coordination
- Coordinate with ground personnel using radios, hand signals, or established communication protocols.
- Monitor environmental factors such as wind, weather, and site constraints in real time.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain operational, safety, load, and maintenance records.
- Ensure full compliance with project safety standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering specifications.
- Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as gantry or launching cranes.
- Ability to read technical manuals, load charts, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Certification as a gantry or crane operator (e.g., NCCCO or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of crane safety, load physics, and construction site operations.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding outdoor and elevated environments.
- Prior work experience in bridge, viaduct, or segmental construction projects.
- Familiarity with span‑by‑span, incremental launching, and balanced‑cantilever erection systems.
- Troubleshooting and basic mechanical repair capabilities.
- On elevated bridge piers and long spans where ground access is limited.
- In conditions demanding precision, safety awareness, and continuous coordination.
