The Assessment and Taxation branch is seeking a natural leader with an eye for detail who can oversee the Tax Exemptions team as they manage complex property tax exemption programs and legislation. Your excellent communication skills and dedication to providing excellent customer service will guide your success as you and your team navigate the complexities of implementing new and emerging legislation while maintaining a high standard of customer care.In this politically sensitive role, you will be dealing with a wide variety of customers and stakeholders ranging from non-profit organizations to higher levels of government. Your research, reports and judgement will assist City Administration and council in their decision making.What will you do:Ensuring compliance with evolving legislation and regulationsLiaising with internal and external stakeholders including school boards, religious and charitable organizations and all levels of governmentPreparing and presenting complex information in an understandable form to all stakeholdersConducting surveys of other assessment and taxation jurisdictions to identify industry norms to guide decision makingPrepare reports for management and Council including research and recommendationsReview existing exemptions processes in an ongoing fashion and update as necessarySupervising, coaching, mentoring, leading and training a team of professional level staffDelegate work, provide ongoing performance feedback, and mentoring employee growthProvide guidance to the team through technical expertiseCoordinate and support Tribunal appearancesQualificationsA University Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Commerce or Arts with a related Major (i.e. Political Science, Communications, English, Management). A Master’s Degree is considered an asset4 years progressively responsible experience in a collaborative role with a focus on communication, collaboration, report writing, public speaking and public administration2 years of supervisory experience including work planning, coaching, mentorship, leading, performance evaluation, performance management and training of staffSkills required for success:Ability to perform in a time and politically sensitive environmentDemonstrated knowledge of Assessment & Taxation processes and the Legislative framework that governs themDemonstrated knowledge of change management best practicesDemonstrated ability to review and create policy/procedures as dictated by changing legislation or changing Branch needsExcellent written and verbal communication skills are requiredDemonstrated ability to present to or facilitate meetings with stakeholder groupsAbility to create and utilize presentation materials using multimedia platformsProven ability to maintain confidentiality is requiredProficiency in the applications of CRM, Google Applications * Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (
