Join OPG and make history.Whether you work in the skilled trades or are a business professional, a career at OPG is an opportunity to electrify your life on -- and off -- the job.JOB OVERVIEWOntario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, consultative & results driven person to join our team in the role of Plant Engineer/Officer (Electrical), in OPG's Renewable Generation (RG) Station Engineering group at the Atikokan Biomass Generating station located near Atikokan, ON.Reporting to the Plant Technical Support Manager, the Electrical Engineer - Hydro has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating projects that are necessary for the continuous safe, efficient, economical operation and asset management of the thermal generating station assets. This challenging role has a broad range of scope where the individual has a direct influence on the maintenance, operation and asset management of the station.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide Electrical engineering advice, assessments, inspections and designs for generators, power systems transformers, distribution, arc flash hazards, protection and control associated with thermal generating stations and associated infrastructure.
- Respond to emergencies, equipment failure, unsatisfactory equipment performance, conduct field investigations and recommend actions.
- Provide technical direction, plans and advice on a variety of technical matters of thermal station maintenance, operations, performance, design, and commissioning.
- Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, request for proposals, proposal evaluation, award, contract negotiations & administration & co-ordination, construction monitoring, resolution of contract disputes.
- Pre-start health and safety reviews, investigation of safety or technical incidents.
- 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 2 years' experience in an Electrical Engineering role; Experience working in a Hydroelectric Generating Facility is preferred; Experience working in an Industrial Power Systems or Utilities organization.
- Individual with ability to work with people and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A result oriented, efficient & value oriented focus, with high integrity to uphold company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
- Experience working in an industrial environment or generating facility with distributed control systems, high voltage installations, protection and control schemes, and large electric motors and/or generators (asset) is preferred.
- Knowledge and/or experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, designing, evaluating, construction monitoring & maintenance of electrical works associated with high voltage industrial installations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, especially for Industrial Establishments (Ont. Reg. 851) & Construction (Ont. Reg. 213) in Ontario & the Ontario Electrical Safety Code & various codes and standards associated with electrical engineering and application of their requirements.
- Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing.
- Willingness to travel via road, airplane, float plane, helicopter etc. 10% of time.
- Be fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (P.Eng)
