- Responsible for Provision of Incident Investigation and Follow-Up
- Responsible for follow-up of alleged theft and/or gross misconduct, or actions which represent a violation of college policies and/or criminal laws; collaborates closely with Health, Safety & Wellness, Human Rights, Human Resources, Administration, Student Code of Conduct and counselling and appropriate public law enforcement and/or regulatory agencies to carry out investigations, develop and report on findings and implement solutions.
- Conduct ongoing College security incident investigations, critical injuries investigations, etc., as required to facilitate achievement of security/safety, productivity, customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance objectives.
- Conducts interviews, collects relevant and accurate information in a professional and lawful manner, including retrieving information from victims, witnesses, and alleged suspects. If required performs violence threat risk assessment triage and is a part of the violence threat risk comprehensive assessment team.
- Performs video surveillance reviews required for incident investigations, capital asset protection and criminal activities.
- Responsible for maintaining case notes, evidence and any other information pertaining to an investigation in an accurate and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with the applicable provincial and federal legislation, rules of evidence and admissions required for legal proceedings and adhering to the college policies and ethics.
- Makes decisions and recommendations based on evaluation of specific threats, vulnerabilities as well as security hazard identification to ensure the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the college.
- Managing of Site Security Operatives
- Managing the third-party security contractors and guards on their assigned site, to ensure responsibilities are carried out in a manner consistent with GBC's principles of equity and fairness, while working with diverse populations, and in compliance with the values, guidelines, codes of conduct and policies of the College.
- Ensures and coordinates the appropriate training and policies pertaining to loss/crime prevention, Human Rights, emergency planning programs and educational materials related to the protection of individuals and college assets are followed on behalf of the College.
- Liaises with contracted security service and security related providers to ensure efficient operations of security services, products, and equipment (i.e., surveillance equipment, additional resources for special events, equipment changes/upgrades, etc.).
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Three-year diploma/degree from a recognized post-secondary institute in a program of study with a Certification in Emergency Management (Emergency Management Act, CSA Z1600, Security Bill 159), Criminology and Justice systems, Police Foundations, Law and Security Administration, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, or other directly related diploma or degree.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in the handling of sensitive investigations and familiarity with a wide variety of investigative and security practices, and technology.
- Requires knowledge of the Private Security & Investigative Services Act, Canadian Criminal and Tort law and regulations, Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms, PIPEDA, FIPPA, Human Rights, familiarity with rules governing admissibility of evidence, litigation and application of laws and regulations. Also requires knowledge of securing physical assets, and adult training methods.
- Excellent communication and written reporting skills to handle both sensitive and volatile situations, intervene in conflict and crisis situations, de-escalation techniques, advocacy, and conflict resolution.
- Requires Clearance certification by Ontario Provincial Police, verifying criminal record search.
