The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The McGill University Department of Pediatric Surgery is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs and research across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH.The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre and the Shriner’s Hospital Canada. The Division of Pediatric Urology provides treatment and reconstructive surgery for a wide variety of congenital and acquired genitourinary problems. Our diverse team of experts also deal with the evaluation and management of children with urinary tract infections, stones of the urinary tract, and urinary incontinence. We offer comprehensive bladder management programs for children with complex neurological issues such as spina bifida where our services are integrated into a multidisciplinary clinic consisting of multiple medical specialists, nurses and occupational and physical therapists. The division is comprised of 4 full time academic pediatric urologists and one pediatric nurse practitioner. Community outreach clinics are an integral part of the scope of practice.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate clinical pediatric teaching and have the opportunity to engage in a busy tertiary care academic and clinical practice. The successful candidate should be familiar with the surgical management of all aspects of pediatric urologic care, yet a further sub-specialty area of expertise and proficiency in laparoscopic surgery would be considered an asset. An advanced research degree and the ability to perform independent research would be considered an asset and could allow the candidate to be recruited as a clinician scientist.Candidates with a clinician-scientist profile will be expected to apply for external salary support from appropriate funding agencies (i.e., CIHR, FRQS), and to eventually obtain external operating grants for their research. Start-up funding may be available on a competitive basis. As a clinician-scientist, the candidate will be expected to devote at least 50% of their time to research.The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission, provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to diverse residents, fellows and medical students, and pursue scholarly activities in advancing clinical care or research.McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Hold an MD degree (or equivalent), and be eligible for, licensure in the Province of Quebec;
Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
Have fellowship training in Pediatric Urology;
For clinician-scientist applicants, a PhD or substantial post-graduate research experience in a relevant field is required;
Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
