Our Nurses experience exciting assignments in Northern Canada's isolated, semi-isolated, and remote areas. Work closely with diverse Indigenous communities (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) providing care to community members in Canada’s remote Northern communities of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.The work you will do:MHNs provide holistic and comprehensive mental health nursing care to all ages across the life-span. As a multidisciplinary team member, the MHN supports a leadership role within mental health by providing nursing care for patients/families through the administration and implementation of the nursing process
  • Medical/psychiatric assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation with individuals presenting in acute crisis and with chronic illnesses. Consultation with physicians and psychiatrists as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention as well as care planning for chronic illness with the mental health population presentations, including assessment of suicide risks, safety planning, additions treatments, longer term care requirements if needed, etc. Assessment with formulation of a care plan for all mental health presentations across the life span
  • Application of client/family and community health nursing principles in all aspects of practice, including collaboration with other health centers/hospitals, RCMP, Family Services and Educational Institutions.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act (Nunavut) and ability to practice accordingly when caring for the mental health population
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care including initial /ongoing assessments, initiation and administration of medications, supporting monitoring of interventions/ including metabolic bloodwork, application and evaluation of therapeutic modalities and consistent application of the recovery model approach with the mental health population.
  • MHN assignments in Nunavut have a 6-week minimum

QualificationsWho You Are:
  • You are a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and have a nursing license through the provincial governing body in good standing
  • You have or are willing to obtain a nursing license through the College and Association of Nurses of the NWT and Nunavut (CANNN)
  • You have (3000 hours) two (2) years of recent full-time experience as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Mental Health Nurse OR (1500 hours) one (1) year of recent full-time experience working in remote, isolated or semi-isolated communities as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse OR Mental Health Nurse
  • Mandatory skillsets and additional training requirements and reimbursements will be discussed during interview
