- Understand and follow Quality System documents relevant to responsibilities, e.g., Quality Manual, SOPs, and Methods.
- Training Coordinator
- Train staff on all techniques and methods used in the laboratory
- Document and sign off training plans
- Exception investigation and management
- Conduct and complete OOS investigations and other exceptions, in coordination with the Department Head.
- Support in the preparation and maintenance of SOPs, procedures and work instructions for the Microbiology laboratory.
- Coordinate the scheduling of samples to assigned Microbiology staff and ensure testing is started and completed in a timely manner.
- Occasional client communication where needed.
- Adhere to appropriate quality measures to meet or exceed current GMP standards, government regulatory, and company requirements relevant to assigned duties.
- Maintaining a neat and accurate record system of work performed on a daily basis and as needed for quality control tests or regulatory purposes.
- Perform sample preparation and analysis. Ensure a high level of accuracy.
- Ensure sample turnaround time goals are met or exceeded.
- Ensure to manage the cleaning and sanitization of the microbiology laboratory.
- Quality control procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Good computer skills - proficiency with MS Office;
- Working knowledge of Laboratory Information management Systems (LIMS).
- Minimum of a B. Sc. In Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field. M. Sc. Or Ph. D. is an asset.
- 5+ years of experience as a microbiology team lead or higher. Supervisory experience an asset.
- Microbiology skill set (including but not limited to):
- Microbial Limits Tests
- Growth Promotion
- Sterility
- Antimicrobial effectiveness testing
- Time Kill assays
- Water and Environmental Monitoring tests (including sample collection)
- Endotoxin testing
- Antibiotic Assays
- qPCR techniques, evaluation and troubleshooting
- ELISA assays using microplate readers
- Mammalian cell culturing
- Competent technical laboratory skills not requiring constant direct supervision.
- Must be able to handle all kinds of Biopharma samples, including potentially cytotoxic or other hazardous materials.
- Experience with a number of routine methods and procedures and some non-routine methods.
- Familiar with instrumentation/equipment handling.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
- Experienced in the operation, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of specified, instrumentation or equipment.
- Experience in RNA and DNA extractions.
- Familiar with sample preparation procedures.
- Follows directions accurately.
- Able to work independently on a variety of tasks.
- Strong computer, and organizational skills.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in data/report generation, retrieval, and interpretation of routine analysis.
