Position: Urban Biological Services LabourerDivision: Community ServicesDepartment: ParksTerm: Multiple Seasonal Full Time positions available.Closing Date: 04/16/2026Labour Group: CUPE 59Posting: 4888Job SummaryUnder supervision of the Urban Biological Services Supervisor, this position assists with the monitoring and control of mosquitoes, small mammals, Dutch elm disease, other insects and diseases.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Controls and monitors the population of mosquitoes, Dutch elm disease, and other insects and plant diseases. May also be assigned duties related to hard-surface weed control, firewood collection, or ground squirrel management.
  • Ensures that all pesticide products are stored, handled and used according to the appropriate Federal and Provincial legislation.
  • Operates and performs minor repairs to a variety of equipment used in mosquito control and other pest management operations.
  • Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon's Administrative Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Policies and departmental procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience Requirements
  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain a valid Mosquito and Biting Fly, Structural or Landscape Class, Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator Licence.
  • Three months' related horticultural/agricultural experience.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan full Class 5 Driver's Licence is required, or at minimum, a Class 5 (Novice 2).
  • Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and civic employees.
  • Ability to work in a computerized/digital environment, including the use of Microsoft Outlook, SAP and mobile devices.
  • Knowledge and ability to use a variety of hand tools.
