- Develop and manage environmental project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk registers.
- Lead projects related to completing environmental assessments (EA), biophysical surveys, permitting, and regulatory approvals under Ontario and federal legislation.
- Oversee environmental field programs, including wildlife, species at risk, vegetation, wetland, aquatics, natural heritage, archaeology, and cultural heritage studies.
- Prepare and review technical reports, permit applications, and environmental management plans.
- Ensure compliance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Endangered Species Act, Fisheries Act, and other relevant legislation.
- Provide guidance on environmental constraints, mitigation strategies, and construction best practices.
- Provide environmental support during construction, including oversight and coordination of daily environmental compliance activities, including but not limited to environmental construction monitoring, environmental surveys, water crossing installations, wildlife and amphibian sweep programs, during the construction of energy projects.
- Lead business development initiatives by identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and cultivating long-term client relationships to support the growth of environmental consulting services.
- Monitor adherence to environmental commitments and develop corrective action plans, when needed.
- Support Canacre’s commitment to safety by participating in safety meetings, following safety policies, and being an advocate for safe work practices in the field.
- Act as a point of contact for the Client and Construction Contractor(s), as well as regulatory agencies.
- Support proposal development, when required.
- Support the preparation of environmental permits, when required.
- Drive business development by leveraging existing client relationships and industry networks to generate new opportunities, secure projects, and contribute to revenue growth.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, environmental planning or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in environmental consulting and project management related to execution of environmental approvals and oversight of compliance during construction.
- Demonstrated track record of business development, including the ability to generate new work and leverage an existing network of clients and industry contacts.
- Strong understanding of Ontario’s environmental regulations and permitting pathways.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants.
- Demonstrated experience in daily coordination and management of environmental monitoring personnel.
- Experience overseeing various biophysical assessments, including wildlife, species at risk, vegetation, wetland and aquatics surveys.
- Experience related to transmission line and renewable energy construction would be an asset.
- Experienced leading field programs, and coordinating with various field teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in federal, provincial, and local permitting and regulations that concern the management of natural resources in the energy sector.
- Experience with routing and siting studies and/or Environmental Assessments would be considered an asset.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Certification by a professional society or a state regulatory board in the discipline of practice is preferred.
