The RT Extern is an integral member of the healthcare team, working collaboratively with the support of a Clinical Extern Coordinator as an unregulated care provider, in the HGH, JHCC or MCH Respiratory Therapy Departments. The RT Extern responsibilities include working under the direction of a RRT to support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience. A RT Extern would bring beginner level experience and knowledge in respiratory therapy principles, RT equipment, respiratory supplies, medical gas management, cleaning, calibration and non-clinical secretarial and/or customer service support.The RT Extern position is open to Respiratory Therapy Students enrolled in their 2nd and 3rd year of a CRTO approved diploma Respiratory Therapy program. Externs will be hired on a temporary casual part-time basis until October 31, 2026.Qualifications1. Completion of first year or second year (enrolled in 2nd and 3rd year) of a Respiratory Therapy diploma program. Preference will be given to candidates from Fanshawe and Conestoga College.
2. Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing.
3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment.
5. Demonstrated strong communication and organizational skills.
6. Demonstrated infection prevention and control practices.
7. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
8. Demonstrated successful completion of a recent clinical placement. Preference will be given to candidates with previous clinical placement experience at Hamilton Health Sciences.
