Position SummaryReporting to the Coordinator of Library Services, the Library Technician Acquisitions & Public Services, works in collaboration with other library staff, contributes to the delivery of effective library services, provides library support to students, faculty, and staff of North Island College, orders and receives library materials including books, media, periodical subscriptions, e-resources, supplies and provides project and general support to the Librarians. This position provides backfill relief to Cataloging and Systems position and other Public Services.

Duties & Responsibilities1. Under the direction of the Librarians; researches and determines availability of books, media and supplies for all campus libraries. This includes identifying cost-effective and efficient distributors, contacting publishers, vendors and distributors to place orders, etc. Utilizes acquisitions module of the Sirsi/Dynix Integrated Library System (ILS) to order, track and manage orders.
2. Receives books, media and supplies; prepares invoices for payment by Finance; communicates with vendors and Finance regarding purchase orders and invoices.
3. Prepares new items for shelf with jacket covers and security strips as well as repairs items in the collection.
4. Coordinates periodical subscription orders and renewals for all campus libraries, departments and staff. This includes distributing subscription renewal lists for approval and authorization; maintaining records of library periodicals received; claiming missing issues and preparing purchase requisitions for payment.
5. Maintains and updates the Aquistions Manual.
6. Develops and delivers library orientations; provides reference and information services both face to face and virtually.
7. Performs backfill or relief for the Cataloguing/Systems position and maintains current knowledge and understanding of the required duties and responsibilities of the position as assigned.
8. Performs circulation and public services tasks, including charging/discharging library materials, collecting fines, utilizing the online booking system and answering directional questions.
9. Provides support to Librarians: prepares departmental documents and reports, special projects, utilizes software for presentations, Libguides, tutorials and online learning.
10. Provides support to Coordinator Library Services: maintains e-resource database, tracks renewals of electronic resources; communicates with vendors regarding IPs for licensing purposes.
11. Provides support to Library Social Media team.
12. Provides support to the Coordinator of Library Services: retrieves and records database usage statistics; special projects and departmental support.
13. Receives weekly overdue reports and flags students' accounts on Colleague as needed.
14. Troubleshoots equipment - computers, laptops, and the multi-functional printer.
15. Opens and distributes library mail.
16. Performs other duties such as processing interlibrary and inter-campus loans, shelving, etc., as needed
17. Provides departmental support to librarians including promoting library technologies, project planning, LLC activities and events
18. Participates in departmental professional development programming.

Required Education & Experience- A two-year Library and Information Technician Diploma from a recognized post secondary institution;
- Minimum four years work experience in an automated library environment preferably academic, this experience may also include cataloguing and systems library experience.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities1. Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Word and basic level of proficiency with MS Excel and other software applications and platforms such as Springshare, Camtasia and Blackboard.
2. Experience with bibliographic tools such as MarcEdit, or equivalent
3. Proven communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, with demonstrated ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
4. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of journal databases and e-resources
5. Good judgment to enable the position holder to work independently, use of initiative and analytical thinking to solve problems.
6. Clearly evidenced organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, ensure attention to detail and efficiently meet deadlines.
7. Skilled in effective team behaviors such as active listening, sharing, balanced participation, and development of shared team goals.
8. Must be adaptable to ongoing change with demonstrated positive attitude, flexibility and operational effectiveness.
