This program covers the most in demand skills and competencies required by industry for work as a network analyst, technical support analyst, network security analyst, ServiceNow Administrator or a network administrator. The program will be developed and delivered using a competency based education (CBE) approach, informed by industry demands. In this diploma program, learners will spend the first year of the program gaining experience and skills in foundational Information Technology job functions, and the second year on Information Technology solutions. Ultimately, this program will prepare learners for entry level careers in Information TechnologyThe Subject Matter Expert (SME), Information Technology Systems will assist in developing competency-based assessments and instructional content for specific courses in the Information Technology Solutions diploma program.SMEs possess current industry knowledge and advanced skills in virtualization, network administration, scripting and automation, customer service and IT business analysis.Candidates must be committed to working to produce high quality course design and curriculum processes that are up to date with current industry practices and standards.Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:Curriculum Development and DeliverablesIn collaboration with a Learning Design Consultant, the SME will support the co-development of the following deliverables and all associated materials:
  • Scenario-based assessments
  • Course resources and materials
  • Skill-based learning activities
  • Course outline, Course Offering Information (COI) documentation, and all associated student schedules and learning materials
In support of the above, SMEs will:
  • Advise on the quality indicators of skills-in-practice for ITS roles
  • Advise on and locate relevant learning resources and materials
  • Assist with the development, review, validation of competencies, tasks, sub-tasks, and performance criteria (quality indicators)
  • Develop learning pathway materials (curates or creates materials)
  • Develop assessment (authentic performance-based assessments, formative assessments, mastery assessments).
  • Review all assessments, learning materials, and resources to ensure authentic alignment to industry
  • Works closely with Instructional Designer to ensure alignment with both labor market needs and Bow Valley College’s academic standards.
  • Support the development of the Course Outline, COI and Competency Based Education instructional guides
Responsibilities for locating/securing resources
  • Ensures all materials are copyright approved
  • Ensures all deliverables are completed on time as per project charter
  • Locates, analyzes, curates, creates and modifies resources as required
  • Works closely with Learning Design to ensure materials/resources are in alignment with industry standards
  • Communicates with Center for Academic Innovation Program Chair, School of Technology Program Chair and School of Technology Associate Dean re: timelines, contract, payment and updates
  • Ensures all revisions are incorporated before the project end
  • Participates in update meetings either via email, telephone or in person as required
  • Keeps open and continuous communication with the staff in Learning Design team
Other Duties/Special ProjectsFollows College Policies and procedures.Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 5 years of professional experience in ITS industry setting, with demonstrable expertise in one or more of the following domains: advanced skills in virtualization, network administration, scripting and automation, customer service and IT business analysis
  • Prior experience in competency-based curriculum development, instructional design, or teaching/training in a post-secondary or corporate setting is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred
  • Instructional or curriculum development experience in a related field or in a post-secondary environment would be considered an asset
  • Experience working successfully in a team based educational setting
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills required
  • Strong knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Curriculum development experience an asset
  • Industry relationships an asset
