- Perform an assessment on the client’s accounting function and manage a project plan to address gaps and establish the roadmap for capacity development and financial literacy. Projects may include a range of areas including but not limited to:
- Create monthly accounting checklists and process documents for accounting team members and provide one-on-one training in areas such as bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
- Assist the client with audit preparation including implementing best practices for document management (scanning, naming conventions/filing) and audit preparation training; liaise with the organization’s external auditor as required.
- Liaise with Indigenous Services Canada and other funders on a variety of matters including annual funding, gathering reporting requirements and templates and providing guidance to the client on ISC reporting and assisting with completion of outstanding reports.
- Provide technical expertise on complex accounting matters such as external financing, system implementations and chart of account setup, and make recommendations to leadership on business matters.
- Review/prepare finance policies and process maps, prepare recommended amendments as required. Make overall recommendations to day-to-day processes that will align with policies and laws.
- Provide training and oversight into general matters such as payroll, GST/PST, and T4 filing.
- Assess overall finance function and align tasks with roles and create job descriptions where required.
- Identify other areas of expertise (IT, HR, etc) that may need additional support.
- Manage workload and unique requirements of multiple clients that have unique needs and may be at a varying points of finance development.
- Prioritize workplan and delegate appropriate tasks to remote EASE bookkeeping and technician teams. Review team members’ work and provide feedback and mentorship to all team members.
- Facilitate quarterly financial reporting and project updates to Management and Leadership.
- Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary
- Certificate or diploma in business administration or accounting with relevant career experience is considered an asset
- Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is preferred, however, other relevant professional credentials/training.
- 5 years of relevant accounting, bookkeeping or related experience
- Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, processes and general organizational functions
- Experience in relationship building and communication skills
- Experience working with accounting software such as Sage Intact and Sage 300
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset
