The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving—an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.Newmont is committed to working in partnership with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.Your ImpactAs a Mine Planner Intern, you will support mining operations by assisting in the execution and tracking of mine plans, while gaining exposure to mine planning processes and tools.Working alongside Operations and Technical Services teams, you will develop an understanding of how mine plans are implemented in the field, how performance is monitored, and how cross-functional coordination supports safe and efficient mining activities.This role provides a strong foundation in both operational execution and planning exposure within a large-scale underground mining project.As a Part of Our Team, You Will
Support the development and update of short- and medium-term mine plans.
Assist in maintaining planning models, schedules, and datasets.
Contribute to the preparation of production schedules and sequencing plans.
Analyze operational data to support planning assumptions and identify trends.
Assist in reconciling planned vs. actual production performance.
Support coordination between Mine Planning, Technical Services, and Operations.
Participate in site observations to understand underground mining activities and constraints.
Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and planning summaries.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in planning processes and tools.
Maintain strict adherence to Newmont’s safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Requirements for Success in This Role
Currently enrolled in a Co-op or undergraduate program in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
Basic understanding of mining operations and exposure to mine planning concepts.
Strong willingness to learn in a field-based environment.
Ability to follow procedures and work under supervision.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Exposure to mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight) is an asset.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated commitment to safety and responsible mining practices.
Your Work EnvironmentThis role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on / 13 days off.You will work in a remote, high-altitude mining environment, supporting the development and execution of a large-scale underground mining project.Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in:
