Join us!If you are interested in working in higher education and are looking to contribute to Guelph-Humber’s unique academic offering, here is your opportunity to join our team.Job Details:Position Title: Manager, Career & Placement ServicesStatus: Full-Time AdminHours: 37.5 hours per weekProgram/Department: Student Services, The University of Guelph-HumberCampus/Location: The University of Guelph-Humber (207 Humber College Blvd, Toronto) is located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit.Minimum Starting Salary: $95,579; starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience.About the Manager, Career & Placement Services Role:Reporting to the Department Head, Student Services, the Manager, Career & Placement Services leads the day-to-day operations of the Career Services and Placement Services departments and a team of eight advisors who assist students with career education, career identification and pursuit of meaningful employment. The manager will also develop and supervise complex administrative tasks that support preparing, placing and supervising all University of Guelph-Humber students in their field placements and internships while ensuring risk and liability is minimized. This role is also accountable for maintaining important University relationships with internal stakeholders as well as outside partners and community groups. A high degree of judgement and diplomacy is required.Responsibilities of the Manager, Career & Placement Services include but are not limited to:Playing a vital role in setting the strategic priorities of the department in collaboration with senior leadership including creation, management and evaluation of career education programs that meet the needs of a diverse student and alumni populationAssessing staffing, resource and space needs to ensure the success of programs and servicesPlanning and executing outreach models and service delivery standards including appointments, drop-ins, workshops, advising appointments, virtual service etc.Acting on behalf of the unit in formal processes under the Collective Agreement when appropriate and responding to staff/student grievances, accommodations and inquiriesCoordinating all Human Resource issues in the unit including recruitment, hiring, training, coaching, performance management, authorizing overtime and requests for time offOverseeing the maintenance and future development of the university wide career and placement portal, GHworks including communicating with the service provider for ongoing training, site development and to mitigate disruptions to serviceMonitoring and reporting on program budgets; allocating funds appropriately to ensure quality events, activities and resourcesAdvising placement staff on complex placement and partnership problems and communicating effectively with other on campus groups including program heads, department head and campus services to generate solutions and ensure alignment with university expectationsQualificationsWhat you bring to the role:EducationA Master's degree with a preference for studies related to Counselling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration or Student Development.Experience and Skills5+ years of experience in student advising, preferably in career developmentComputer software (databases, experience with Banner, and Orbis based software is an asset);Strong mediation conflict resolution and diplomacy skills;Demonstrated public speaking skills, excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication;Program planning and implementation, career exploration, advising and planning;Demonstrated experience in leadership, training, coaching and performance management;Analytical skills and attention to detail;Skilled at taking a solutions-focused, flexible approach to problem solving;Strong judgement with the ability to make informed decisions;Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a complex and often competing set of priorities;Incumbent must demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and diversity by ensuring that the specific needs of student and alumni populations and equity-deserving groups are met.At the University of Guelph-Humber, we don’t just accept difference — we celebrate it!
