Who We AreDyno Nobel is a global leader in commercial explosives, manufacturing and blasting technology, delivering innovative solutions to the mining, quarry, construction, and seismic industries. With a legacy of safety, performance, and technical excellence, Dyno Nobel is known for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in commercial explosives—helping customers optimize operations, improve productivity, and reduce environmental impact. Backed by a team of dedicated professionals and a commitment to continuous improvement, Dyno Nobel sets the standard for reliable and responsible blasting manufacturing and services worldwide. What You’ll DoThis full-time role provides technical blasting support at a large open pit iron ore operation in Labrador City, NL. The position spends a significant portion of time in the pit, on the bench, and alongside blasters and operations personnel, supporting safe, efficient, and repeatable blasting outcomes in a demanding mining environment. In addition to field work, the role also requires dedicated time in the office working closely with engineers and mine planning teams to review blast performance, analyze data, and identify optimization opportunities that translate directly to improved pit productivity. This role is hands-on and fast-paced, requiring the ability to move seamlessly between field execution and technical analysis, while staying composed, credible, and effective when working with a wide range of personalities under production pressure. You tasks and duties will include:Work directly in the field with blasters, supervisors, and operations crews to support daily blasting activities.Analyze ground conditions and blasting requirements and apply practical, fit-for-purpose solutions to improve safety, fragmentation, and dig performance.Support blast design execution, including burden and spacing, charge placement, timing, and sequencing — ensuring designs translate effectively from plan to bench.Perform quality control on explosive loading operations, including truck loading oversight, density checks, and product verification.Collect blast performance data including fragmentation results, vibration monitoring, VOD measurements, high-speed video, and blast timing validation.Conduct post-blast analysis: fragmentation assessment, muckpile movement, dig rates, time studies, and volumetric measurements.Track and analyze blast-to-dig and blast-to-haul relationships using truck data and payload performance reports.Prepare and present clear, defensible data for Blast Optimization Team (BOT) meetings to drive continuous improvement.Support troubleshooting of blasting issues such as misfires, overbreak, poor fragmentation, vibration exceedances, or downstream productivity losses.Observe how blast patterns impact digging style, equipment interaction, and overall pit productivity — and coach improvements in real time.Assist in blast site hazard assessments and ensure safe work practices are followed before, during, and after blasting activities.Train and mentor blasters and mine planners on technical blasting fundamentals to build redundancy and consistency across crews.Actively promote the safe and effective use of Dyno Nobel products in the field, including electronic detonator systems, packaged explosives, and bulk explosives, ensuring correct application, quality control, and alignment with blast design intent.Maintain professionalism and composure when managing differing opinions, strong personalities, and operational pressure in the field.Complete accurate blast reporting and technical documentation that reflects real field conditions — not just theory.Respond quickly and professionally to operational issues, changes, and business requests.Follow all company safety policies and regulatory requirements without exception, safety is not optional. What We’re Looking For
  • Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline is an asset — real field experience matters more.
  • Blasting or explosives certification (as per regional requirements) considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience required; 5+ years in open pit blasting strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of blasting principles, rock mechanics, and mining regulations — and how they apply in real conditions.
  • Proven hands-on experience working in active pits, not just behind a desk.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in harsh weather, rough terrain, and high-energy operational environments.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to turn data into practical action.
  • Experience with fragmentation analysis, post-blast performance reviews, and blast optimization.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with blasters, supervisors, engineers, and clients — even when things aren’t going well.
  • Working knowledge of blasting software, data analysis tools, and reporting platforms is an asset.
What We Offer:
  • Paid vacation time + paid holidays
  • Health Care + Life insurance + AD&D
  • RRSP + RPP (after 1 year of continuous employment)
  • Employee Assistance Program
