Position SummaryThis position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students' progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College's policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.
Duties & Responsibilities * Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
- Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
- Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
- Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
- Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
- Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
- Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
- Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Diploma or degree in Dental Hygiene or Certificate Level II Certified Dental Assisting.
- Baccalaureate degree in education, dental science, or health science preferred.
- Post graduate modules in dental level II assisting preferred.
- National Dental Assisting Examining Board certificate preferred.
- Current practicing license and registration in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia or current status as a practicing Certified Dental Assistant in good standing with the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP).
- Member in good standing in provincial/national associations.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in clinical dental hygiene or in Level II clinical dental assisting.
- Instructional experience related to dentistry in an educational setting.
- BC Provincial Instructor's Diploma or equivalent, or plan to complete the PID Program in within an appropriate time frame.
- Baccalaureate degree in education, dental science, or health science preferred.
- Dental assisting experience preferred, or minimum of 5 years' experience in working with a dental assistant.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
