- Lead and perform engineering design for Telecom systems for transmission line and substation projects.
- Work with communication systems in power utility environment, including Microwave Radio, Fibre Optics, SONET/SDH/DWDM, Satellite System, WiMax, High Voltage Entrance Protection, Power Line Carrier communication, Teleprotection, and telecom power systems.
- Prepare calculations for 48 VDC telecom power systems and prepare fibre optic cable designs.
- Develop engineering documents, schematics, and design diagrams for Telecom systems
- Create bill of materials (MTO) for all telecom equipment and hardware
- Prepare and review engineering documents, specifications, and inspection and testing procedures.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as required
- Coordinate, stage and plan installation and commissioning with the utility and subcontractors.
- Respond to information requests (RFI's) from site and complete project documentation including as-builts and calculations.
- Fulfill the duties of Professional Record for work within the field of practice.
- Ensure the latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design.
- Work within assigned budgets and schedules.
- Engineering Degree or Diploma from a recognized university or College
- 8+ years of Telecom Engineering/Design experience developing Telecom Engineering Design Packages from an Oil and Gas, Mining, Transmission and Distribution (T&D) or Substation background.
- Knowledge Structured Cabling System for commercial and industrial facilities, DPABX, UHF-DMR, security (video, etc.) and access control systems
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood now or in the future is required
- Knowledge of SONET/SDH/DWDM, PDH, TDM, Microwave radio, fibre optic, WIMAX, VSAT, Ethernet layer 2 and 3 protocols, TCP/IP/MPLS networks is an asset
- North American power utility design experience is considered an asset
- Registration through APEGA/EGBC (or eligible for provincial transfer) as a P.ENG/P.L. (ENG) is an asset
