
Quality Assurance Technician

- Post-secondary education in Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a quality assurance or quality control role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with inspection techniques, root cause analysis, and process improvement methodologies.
- Forklift or yard equipment experience is an asset but not required.
- Knowledge of ABSA (Alberta Boilers Safety Association) inspections and regulatory compliance is an asset.
- Strong understanding of quality control principles, inspection procedures, and industry standards.
- Familiarity with Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) processes and documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and welding standards.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, gauges, visual inspection tools).
- Competency in data collection, analysis, and reporting using spreadsheets or quality management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Organizational skills to manage documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Willingness to spend significant time on the production floor (approx. 60%) and perform administrative/documentation tasks (approx. 40%).
- Ability to support and backfill the Quality and Warranty Manager during absences.
- Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives, tracking progress against established goals.
- Conduct visual inspections of components and finished products throughout various stages of production.
- Identify and document non-conformances; collaborate with teams to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain departmental quality checklists and report findings to the Quality and Warranty Manager.
- Support the parts and procurement teams in resolving discrepancies related to materials, logistics, and organization.
- Utilize Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) reports to enhance product and service quality.
- Collect and analyze quality-related data to support continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist in the development of stage manuals and step-by-step process documentation.
- Monitor the quality of weldments and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Provide finishing support to final assembly teams prior to PDI.
- Contribute to yard organization and assist with warranty-related inquiries.
- Support the rollout of quality process improvements under the guidance of the Quality and Warranty Manager.
- Assist with material marking, heat number transfers, and damage inspections prior to shelving by material handlers.
- Prepare and submit departmental paperwork for QCM review and filing.
- Perform pre-checks on completed units to ensure PDI readiness, including photo documentation and visual examinations, report non-conformances prior to release.
- Monitor work on Code vessels to ensure adherence to procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Provide support for other management areas as needed.
- Maintain a presence on the production floor (approximately 60%) to assist lead personnel with quality-related issues; dedicate remaining time (approximately 40%) to documentation, inspections, and ABSA compliance.
- Serve as an apprentice for the Quality and Warranty Manager, with the ability to provide coverage during absences.
