Working in close collaboration with hospitals, insurance providers, regional health organizations and workers’ compensation boards, Clearpoint delivers high-quality care across Canada meeting the needs of patients, while alleviating capacity pressure on public health systems.Join our 3-OR, 12-bed orthopedic surgical centre, delivering exceptional knee and hip replacement careWage - $21.00/hr - $26.00/hr based on ExperiencePosition : CasualNo of position : OngoingPosition OverviewThe Sterile Core Aide plays a vital role in supporting the perioperative team by ensuring safe and effective medical device reprocessing while assisting Nursing staff with operating room preparation and workflow.This role is ideally suited for a certified Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) professional who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of infection prevention, patient safety, and operational efficiency.The successful candidate will contribute directly to safe surgical care, efficient OR turnovers, and an exceptional patient experience.Key ResponsibilitiesMedical Device Reprocessing (Primary Responsibility)
Perform decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with IPAC standards and CSA guidelines.
Operate sterilization equipment and monitor cycles, including biological and chemical indicator testing.
Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of sterilization records.
Ensure proper handling and segregation of contaminated instruments and biomedical waste.
Maintain organization and inventory within the sterile core using FIFO principles.
Identify damaged instruments or equipment and report for repair or replacement.
Operating Room Support
Assist with OR set-up and preparation for scheduled surgical cases.
Pick and prepare case carts according to surgical slates.
Support efficient OR turnovers, including environmental cleaning between cases.
Open sterile supplies and instrument trays as directed by Nursing staff.
Assist with equipment set-up and positioning devices (e.g., limb holders, specialty beds).
Transport equipment, supplies, and surgical specimens as required.
Patient Support
Assist Nursing staff with safe patient transfers and positioning using proper body mechanics.
Transport patients via stretcher or wheelchair within the perioperative area as needed.
Support patient flow to ensure timely case starts and smooth recovery transitions.
General Responsibilities
Assist to maintain stock levels in ORs, sterile core, and supply carts.
Ensure compliance with Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC), WHMIS, and Occupational Health & Safety standards.
Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
Assist in review and update of physician preference cards in HSTAssist in the review and edit of supply listings within preference cards in HSTCompletion of final supply checks daily and posting to inventory in HST * Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate effectively with surgical, recovery, and administrative teams.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program.
Current MDR certification (CMDRT preferred).
Minimum 1–2 years of recent MDR experience in a hospital or surgical centre.
Working knowledge of sterile processing standards and infection control principles.
CPR certification at the Health Care Provider level (preferred).
Asset
Experience supporting Operating Room workflow.
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and case cart preparation.
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of sterilization processes and quality control standards.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
