This role shapes component strategy, strengthens supplier partnerships, and drives the technical decisions that safeguard the field performance of our products.   • Define qualification requirements in alignment with industry standards to ensure component reliability
  • Oversee the coding, documentation, and lifecycle management of semiconductor components
  • Lead qualification activities for components and integrated modules
  • Drive supplier audits, development initiatives, and compliance confirmation in the system of record
  • Assess and manage product change notifications, ensuring cross‑functional alignment to resolutions
  • Lead rapid issue resolution by collaborating with contract manufacturer quality teams and component suppliers
  • Evaluate alternate components to mitigate design, supply chain, or quality risks
The must haves:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  • 5+ years of experience in component engineering or semiconductor design, fabrication, or manufacturing
  • Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor fabrication, packaging, performance, failure mechanisms, and reliability
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards such as Telcordia and IPC
  • Experience managing end‑of‑life notices, product change notifications, and component‑level issue resolution
  • Ability to review test yield data and lead corrective actions in partnership with design teams
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in fast‑paced environments
Nice to haves:
  • Experience mentoring or training engineers
  • Background supporting cost‑reduction initiatives or supplier negotiations
  • Familiarity with contract manufacturer workflows and quality systems
  • Knowledge of database and component management tools
  • Exposure to multi‑disciplinary engineering environments
  • Experience influencing cross‑functional design decisions
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset applied to complex component challenges
Pay Range: The annual pay range for this position in Canada is $107, 000 - $170, 800Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
