
Facility Operations Technician | Part-Time | South Okanagan Events Centre

- Responds to service calls and carries out necessary repairs.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Adjusts, dismantles, repairs and assembles equipment.
- Assists with craft services such as refrigeration, plumbing, electronics, minor carpentry and painting.
- Responds to trouble and emergency situations and takes necessary precautions for the well-being and protection of property and occupants.
- Assist with maintenance of dasher boards and glass to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Assist with general work involving ice maintenance, trade shows, concerts, conventions, family shows, and other events held.
- Install electrical cables required for events and clients.
- Operates equipment including but not limited to scissor lift (if licensed), fork lift (if licensed), electrical equipment, power tools, and general tools.
- Conduct visual tours and inspections of machinery and equipment.
- Program, operate and maintain computerized HVAC, fire alarm, field equipment, and lighting systems.
- Schedule, maintain, and repair all campus wide exterior and interior lighting systems.
- Work with Operations Managers to maintain ice resurfacers, power edger, riding scrubber, vacuums, and other in-house equipment.
- Keep accurate logs per unit.
- Inspect equipment and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Assist in the servicing of air conditioning and operates, cleans and performs minor servicing of air conditioning equipment.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or related trade school training; valid driver’s license; and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with guests, vendors, staff, and other facility users.
- Familiarity of Worksafe BC requirements.
- Be reliable, honest, dependable, and punctual and have strong customer service.
- Be a self-starter; have ability to take directions; and be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Willing to work in varying weather conditions.
- Technical license preferred, but not required.
- Requires frequent walking/standing (possibly uneven surfaces), climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, working in cramped positions reaching, pushing, pulling, driving, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
- Ability to frequently and safely climb and navigate stairs, work on roofs and catwalks over 50ft high.
- Good eye and hand coordination and reflexes for the safe operation of equipment.
- Good visual acuity with or without corrective lenses.
- Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse on a computer.
- This position requires work inside and/or outside of the building, as needed by events and is subjected to changing climate and adverse weather conditions.
- The worker is subjected to noise.
- Noise levels will vary depending on job task and events in the building.
- Knowledge of safe operation of tools, such as sharp wheel cutters, reamers, drills, grinders, and equipment such as service carts, scissor lifts & boom lifts, etc.
- Must be able to work flexible shift/schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays as well as extended work days and extended number of work days.
