This is a high profile role reporting to the Capital Markets Controller. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to drive best in class financial accounting, provide expert information support which facilitates the success of CIBC Capital Markets businesses, and enable process transformation by sharing best practices across various jurisdictions. This role involves collaboration with business partners across Front Office, Operations, Technology, Controllership, CFO groups. You will have exposure to various finance executive teams. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.How You’ll Succeed
  • Accounting and Controls – You provide accurate, complete, and timely input to the various reporting groups. Provide accounts attestation and ensure all balance sheet accounts are substantiated. Inspire adherence to timing in Service Level Agreements. Support the explanation of P&L differences between daily financial estimate “DFE” vs. general ledger “GL” by liaising with Product Control , investigating differences in valuation methodologies, and resolving settlement or trade booking discrepancies with infrastructure partners.
  • Agility – You maintain agile accounting processes and controls to ensure timeliness and accuracy. Ensure changes in accounting policies/requirements are implemented in a controlled manner. Work with Chief Accountant’s Group to ensure policy as mandated and agreed with other governance partners to ensure CIBC control environment is visible, robust and efficient. Support new business growth by providing timely feedback to cross-functional stakeholders regarding financial reporting risks from business initiatives and advise on required controls to mitigate those risks.
  • Relationship management – You have good teamwork, partnership, and relationship building skills sufficient to act in a collaborative manner given team members and stakeholders different backgrounds and experiences. You will liaise within Controllership/Finance and with other stakeholder groups such as Front Office, Technology groups, and Operations for new initiatives/processes to ensure efficient issue solutions.
  • Transformation – You will participate in and drive continuous improvements. Assist in the development of new systems and processes to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Collaborate to determine business needs and the analytical or financial support required to aid in the effective business decision making process and provide input on issues and insights on new systems initiatives. Maintain adequate end to end process maps and detailed task manuals in accordance with best practices, regulatory requirements, SOX, and Internal Control.

  • You can demonstrate experience in concepts and processes for the accounting of complex and/or sensitive nature; interest rate products, customized bonds, money market, cross currencies, forwards, options and other vanilla and non-standard derivative transactions. You are an experienced Accountant and have a strong Capital Markets accounting background in order to perform oversight over accounting functions. This includes enhancement of financial controls across multiple groups. You have strong knowledge of IFRS and Financial Reporting requirements for Financial Instruments. In addition to capital markets instruments, you will demonstrate knowledge of digital banking and FinTech payment solutions. It’s an asset if you have Public accounting firms experience.
