- Reviews all log entries, checklist items, and Laboratory Analysis data generated on the shifts and investigates unusual results, assisting supervision with problem resolution.
- Supervise operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting air/wastewater/decanting processes.
- Troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain air/wastewater/decanting equipment.
- Develop and implement process improvements.
- Manage the disposal, storage, and documentation of hazardous wastes.
- Communicate with production personnel when a deviation occurs from the normal waste water stream in order for adjustments to be made to the process.
- Review and update SOPs to meet legal requirements of ECA.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations (internal/external).
- Complete and communicate monthly Environmental Score Card.
- Investigate public odour complaints and follow up with senior management and MECP.
- Ensure that all employees work in a safe manner and maintain a safe tidy environment/workplace.
- Perform regular site safety audits and complete safety scorecard.
- Oversee the safe operations of all equipment.
- Review and respond to Joint Health and Safety Committee audits.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for performing chemical, biological, and physical tests of air/wastewater to determine the efficiency of the chemical and biological processes within the air pollution control/wastewater treatment plant.
- Provide lab training to WWTP technicians on proper lab methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Order supplies and purchase equipment. Monitor maintenance and service program.
- Establish, execute, review and evaluate laboratory procedures.
- Identify and communicate the need for capital improvement projects for air/water improvements and prepare CERs for senior management approval.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings.
- Ensure appropriate training is provided to all technicians
- Prepare, monitor and control costs to a budget.
- Make WWTP work schedules and calls in operators to ensure proper staffing on assigned shift.
- Meet weekly with Maintenance to organize and schedule Maintenance; issue work orders and follow up outstanding work order items; upgrade and change process.
- Requisition supplies, materials and equipment for work activities and arrange the timely delivery of same.
- Ensure the completion of time and attendance records (Kronos).
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedure.
- The successful applicant will have a minimum 2-5 years of Supervisory experience
- Experience in a rendering or food manufacturing environment is a definite asset but not required
- Post-secondary education and/or University Degree or College Diploma in Environmental Science or related discipline
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a water treatment plant
- Intermediate computer skills with MS Office applications (Word, Excel)
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize work assignments
- Ability to be flexible and work extended hours in order to meet tight deadlines
- Enthusiastic, positive and self-motivated, with an ability to work independently
- Excellent analytical, time management, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Strong communication skills and cooperation required across other functional business areas, across corporate teams, regulatory bodies, communities, and local businesses
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the AODA, ESA, OHSA and other federal, and provincial standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the AODA, ESA, OHSA and other federal, and provincial standards
- Must be able to work comfortably and safely in elevated areas and confined spaces.
- Must be able to climb up to 6 flights of metal stairs safely
- Must be able to climb standard ladders
- Must be able to stretch and view difficult areas
- Must be able to walk up to 1km multiple times per day due to size of facility
- Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and over radio
- Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time (up to 2 hours at a time)
- Must be able to stand for up to 10-15 minutes at a time
- Walking, standings and moving for prolonged periods of time.
- Position includes utilization of computer systems in the plant and office.
- Typical of a food manufacturing plant environment including high volume of raw material smell, changeable weather and temperature conditions
