If so, then we invite you to apply for the exciting position of Communications Advisor with the City of Edmonton!As a Communications Advisor, you will be an integral part of the City Operations department’s Communications and Engagement team, collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategic communications plans. Supporting the Parks and Roads branch - with focus on the Safe Mobility and Traffic Operations portfolios - you will report to a Senior Communications Advisor and play a key role in advancing the priorities of the branch, department, City and Council. Your ability to craft clear messaging, manage issues, and leverage diverse communications channels will be essential to enhancing public awareness and promoting a safer, more livable Edmonton.The Parks and Roads Services branch is responsible for services and assets that support mobility and activity in our city, and helps ensure that streets and roads, infrastructure assets, parks, trees, and boulevards remain accessible, attractive, and safe.What you will do:
  • Develop and implement integrated communications strategies to support media relations, public information sharing, and public engagement activities
  • Proactively and reactively manage media relations to ensure timely and accurate reporting on City projects and initiatives
  • Identify emerging issues and implement strategies to position the City effectively with internal and external audiences
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the City to share information, coordinate messaging, and ensure a consistent approach throughout project lifecycles
  • Write, edit, and manage a variety of communications materials, including news releases, web content, social media posts, and presentations
  • Provide communications and tactical support to internal clients, ensuring alignment with City priorities and visual identity guidelines
Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized University degree or diploma in communications, public relations, or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate communications, public relations, or public affairs with a degree, or 4 years of experience with a diploma
Assets:
  • Accreditation with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS).

  • Strong knowledge of communications practices, principles, and techniques.
  • Superior issues management and media relations skills.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven project management and event planning skills.

  • Availability to attend and support events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time

  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
