
Communications Advisor

- Develop and implement integrated communications strategies to support media relations, public information sharing, and public engagement activities
- Proactively and reactively manage media relations to ensure timely and accurate reporting on City projects and initiatives
- Identify emerging issues and implement strategies to position the City effectively with internal and external audiences
- Collaborate with colleagues across the City to share information, coordinate messaging, and ensure a consistent approach throughout project lifecycles
- Write, edit, and manage a variety of communications materials, including news releases, web content, social media posts, and presentations
- Provide communications and tactical support to internal clients, ensuring alignment with City priorities and visual identity guidelines
- Completion of a recognized University degree or diploma in communications, public relations, or a related field
- A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate communications, public relations, or public affairs with a degree, or 4 years of experience with a diploma
- Accreditation with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS).
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong knowledge of communications practices, principles, and techniques.
- Superior issues management and media relations skills.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven project management and event planning skills.

- Availability to attend and support events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
