This position works in the Water - Operations, Maintenance & Construction organizational unit. This is an entry-level position performing manual work of some variety in the performance of utility system operations and general labour. An incumbent of this class will assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution system, wastewater collection system and storm water system and perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks related to public works and utilities. Supports emergency response efforts such as water main breaks and infrastructure failures. Assists in the installation, repair, and replacement of water mains, water services, and related system infrastructure. Duties are performed under close supervision, while exercising some independence of judgement in routine tasks. Performs related duties as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by some experience in construction, maintenance, or utility system operations; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. EOCP Certification - Operator in Training is desirable. Working knowledge of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems and storm systems including operational principles and maintenance procedures; of methods, techniques, tools, and materials used in construction, maintenance, and public works operations. Ability to learn and operate various tools and equipment safely and effectively; to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks requiring physical stamina, strength, and coordination; lifting heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions.; to interact effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public; to perform the required duties, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions. Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.Salary: $33.26/hour (2024 rates)
