The Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator ensures waste is compacted as necessary and maintains the cleanliness and safety of the landfill to the standards set out in the associated approval. This position involves operating heavy machinery such as skid steer, loader, compactor, and dozer. Manual labour is also performed to maintain appearance of facility, separate materials, and service equipment. The Operator assists and educates customers in all areas of the Centre.Job Duties and Tasks:
Compact waste as necessary
Litter picking, mowing, tidying up in transfer station, shop, and general site as well as scale maintenance
Cover landfill face with soil using heavy equipment on site.
Maintain equipment (cleaning tracks on cat, greasing, etc.), help with services and equipment checklists
Snow removal
Ensure landfill is cleared of debris and other rubbish
Assist customers within the Centre. Includes recycling and recycling awareness, identification and separation of hazardous wastes, and providing assistance guiding customers to the appropriate disposal areas
Scale operation - weighing customer's loads in and out of the site
Qualifications
Class 5 Driver's License and clean abstract
Willingness and ability to work overtime when required
Previous landfill, transfer station or solid waste station experience would be an asset
Landfill Certification and/or Transfer Station Certification an asset
Willingness to cross train and learn all the functions at the landfill is required
Ability to operate heavy equipment
Ability to interact with waste haulers, members of the public, and co-workers effectively and courteously,
Ability to safely complete general labour duties (which may involve litter picking, lifting, sweeping, cleaning, shoveling)
Ability to undertake basic maintenance of equipment
Experience with MS Outlook and an ability to use computers
Acceptable Police Information Check required
Additional InformationWhat We Offer:The County of Grande Prairie provides a competitive compensation package.Work Schedule:This position is temporary full-time for 6 months with a possibility of extension, 40 hours per week on a two-week rotation (M,T,F, S & T,W,T,F) .
