Responsibilities include: Accessioning specimens using Shire management System; cleaning and sterilizing work area and equipment; preparing media and solutions; Prepares and processes specimens for tissue culture; blood specimen processing including RNA and DNA extraction and preparing reagents. Preparing samples and documentation for shipment of diagnostic and research specimens to destinations out of province, both nationally and internationally - including packing boxes for shipment on dry ice and arranging for courier pickup. Performing Materials Management functions such as ordering, receiving, distribution and inventory control; Maintains an organized and clean work environment. Performs other related duties as required.Hours of Work7.5 Hour shifts, 9am - 5pm, days. Weekends / Call-back as required.Your Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D. required, with English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or acceptable equivalents.
- Completion of a certified Medical Lab Assistant course is required.
- Certification as an MLA with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is required.
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to procurement of specimens and a sound knowledge of Phlebotomy required.
- Willingness to apply, perform and learn computer functions required for the position.
- Demonstrated tact, the ability to work with others and the ability to work as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated strong planning, organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- Experience in a similar lab environment an asset.
- MEDITECH experience an asset.
- Competency in other languages considered an asset.
