As part of our dynamic team, you can lead the way, as we continue our journey towards high reliability care!Right now we’re looking for a Registered Nurse to work in the Child and Adolescence Mental Health and Addictions Inpatient Program.Location: Wilson Site - Must be willing to work on all Mental Health UnitsHourly Rate Range: $37.93 - $54.37
Hours of work: Rotating shifts days, evenings, nights, and weekendsEmployee Group: ONAResponsibilities:Completes psychiatric nursing assessment of patientsAdministers Regular and or PRN medication to patients as required.Provides health teaching to children, youth and family members concerning medication regimes using a biopsychosocial framework.Leads and co-leads therapeutic groups and supervises patient learning activities in a classroom setting.Establishes therapeutic alliances with the patients and their families.Implements patient interventions based on assessment, patient and family input and in conjunction with the treatment team using a patient and family centered approach to care.Ensures coordinated delivery of care through ongoing communication with all members of the team including school teachers and teaching assistant.Documents all assessment findings, treatment plans, progress and discharge summaries of interventions as requiredAttends patient related meetings to report on assessment findings and discuss plans for interventions and discharge as required.Provides coverage to the other Inpatient Units of the Mental Health and Addictions Program as needed.Assists with application of behavior management strategies under the guidance of the psychiatrist. * Nurses may be reassigned to other mental health units as per the Collective Agreement
  • Other related duties as required.
Requirements:Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.Current BCLS/CPR certification required.BScN preferred.Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing required, or willingness to obtain within one year of hire. * Formal CPI certification required.2 to 3 Years of recent child & adolescent mental health experience is requiredDemonstrated ability to provide individual/group counseling for children and youthExcellent assessment skills, including demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention skills for children and youth.Demonstrates awareness and understanding in working with individuals from different cultures.Experience with specific individual/group therapy skills (e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy) is an assetDemonstrated ability to work with complex and difficult patient and family situations * Demonstrates an excellent understanding re: the etiology of addiction and mental health illnesses related to children and youth
  • An awareness and Knowledge/experience in Trauma Informed Care preferred
Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act.Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and verbalExcellent interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills, with an ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.Must be able to work effectively, both individually and within a group setting, in a fast paced environment.Demonstrates initiative and creativity in the workplace.Must be able to work individually as well as work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and teachers.Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.Interested applicants are required to apply online by the closing date.
