A leading Canadian construction company is seeking an Environmental Manager to oversee and advance the environmental management strategy on a major project in Ontario. This senior role offers an opportunity to champion regulatory compliance, sustainability practices, and stakeholder engagement, while providing leadership to a high-performing environmental team. The successful candidate will play a critical part in ensuring environmental excellence across all phases of a large-scale project.The RoleAs Environmental Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of environmental compliance and performance on a complex project. You will build collaborative partnerships with project teams, government regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure all environmental commitments are met. This role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to lead programs in areas such as water management, soil reuse, air quality, excess soil reporting, and designated substances.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all environmental aspects of a major infrastructure project, ensuring compliance with permits, licenses, and environmental legislation.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee the project’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Liaise effectively with government authorities and stakeholders on environmental compliance and sustainability matters.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, and data analysis, including the use of dispersion and emissions models.
  • Direct the preparation and authorization of environmental reports, plans, and submissions.
  • Mentor and lead environmental staff, including coordination of inspections for subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying risks, implementing mitigation measures, and promoting sustainable practices across the project.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental management within infrastructure or heavy construction settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop technical teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated confidence in stakeholder engagement and reporting.
