- Shop Floor Advisory: Provides "Master-level" guidance to Machinists and Fabricators on complex setups, tooling selection, and assembly sequences.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Collaborates with Engineering during the design phase to identify manufacturing bottlenecks and suggest cost-saving modifications.
- Assembly Oversight: Sets the standard for "best-in-class" assembly methods and provides final technical sign-off on critical project milestones.
- Troubleshooting: Acts as the "Final Court of Appeal" for technical problems that stall production.
- Production Efficiency: Directs project plan execution and drives production times to hit project targets.
- Labour Mapping: Analyzes RFQs to determine accurate labour hours, required machine time, and specialized process sequences.
- Risk Mitigation: Identifies potential "high-risk" elements in custom builds (e.g., specific tolerances or material behaviours) and ensures they are priced accordingly.
- Supply Chain Liaison: Manages and leverages a network of specialized local vendors (e.g., heat treating, specialized boring, coating) to ensure quality and lead-time compliance.
- ERP Integration: Leads the transition of technical quoting and shop-floor tracking into the Company's ERP system.
- Process Documentation: Converts unwritten technical methods into formal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical training guides.
- Technology Adoption: Researches and recommends modern tooling, software, or machinery to improve throughput and precision.
- Mentors junior tradespeople, project managers, and engineers on the nuances of heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Fosters a culture of technical excellence, focusing on precision and pride in craftsmanship.
- 15+ years of experience in Heavy Fabrication/Machining, Red Seal Millwright or Machinist is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with Mining Equipment and/or Water Treatment infrastructure and Industrial Machines.
- Proven ability to use ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, JobBOSS, SAP) and MS Office.
- Experience managing the lifecycle of a build from initial quote to final delivery.
- Exceptional ability to translate technical concepts for Sales, Engineering, and Clients.
