- Identify, address and manage the business’ needs in support of strategic objectives; providing support and triage of matters to the Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs
- Lead legal process and review in the area of vendor management and work with cross functional teams across the vendor lifecycle, including new vendor selection, onboarding, contract review and approval; develop and enhance vendor management processes
- Lead legal review in the areas of: consumer protection, privacy, and customer resolutions
- Conduct legal research on areas impacting the business, working in conjunction with the Director, Government Relations
- Develop a strong and effective working relationship with all levels of Management in order to provide proper direction, influence and counsel with respect to legal matters; the incumbent should grow their sphere of influence
- Apprise the Chief Legal Officer of issues, opportunities and threats related to legal items that arise
- Advise on complex legal matters and effectively tailor recommendations and solutions to meet business goals as outlined by the Senior Leadership Team and as applicable to a publicly traded company
- Identify opportunities and issues that arise, and support the Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs, and Chief Legal Officer in providing creative and business-oriented options and solutions to all levels of Management
- Support existing and new service offerings, mergers and acquisitions, partnership and sponsorship initiatives and proposals that may evolve through strategic planning or in the normal course of goeasy’s growing business model
- Support the Chief Legal Officer in the areas of corporate governance and corporate policies
- Support legal proceedings, whether by or against the company, to safeguard the legitimate interest of the company
- Provide practical and pragmatic legal opinions covering a wide range of functional areas as required
- Support the Legal & Corporate Affairs group in the maintenance and administration of all corporate records and registrations, particularly in the context of a public company with operations in all provinces
- 2-4 years of working experience, preferably in a dynamic corporate legal department
- Combination of in-house experience supporting financial services and/or a public company will be preferred
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, with demonstrated expertise in all relevant areas of the law
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit and is not afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce opportunities/ solutions and best practices that enhance the Company’s objectives
- Superior relationship building skills and proven success in connecting with different functional areas, partner groups and member groups
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Confident and pro-active self-starter, skilled in taking initiative, assessing requirements, coming up with plans and taking the lead when implementing a solution or recommendation
- Sound judgment and strong decision-making skills with an ability to be a person of influence to the executive team
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite and other business-related software
