- Support and coordinate critical network operations to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains; effectively planning, scheduling, and managing railway assets to minimize train delays.
- Oversee and coordinate service adjustments implementation to provide on-time services that address unforeseen circumstances and to accommodate special events.
- Maintain an on-going awareness of the operation, equipment and signals, operating manuals, and Train Control applications.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with on-track resources for the performance of maintenance work and inspections to avoid delays to scheduled train movements. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, during service recovery, and emergency incident management to relay service status updates.
- Triage emergency situations efficiently, effectively, and with minimal supervision; coordinate the response and communicate procedures within Metrolinx in support of major emergency situations.
- Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to rule compliance and safety. Report safety issues and suspected security breaches to the appropriate authorities.
- Contribute to the development of internal policies, procedures, and processes for NOC dispatch operations. Identify and recommend improvements and efficiencies arising from operational observations to the Leadership Team.
- Support corporate objectives of growing service capability and customer satisfaction.
- Completion of a diploma in Business Administration, Transportation, or related field - or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Four (4) years' progressive experience in a transportation control center or related experience.
- Ability to obtain Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification is required. (Training will be provided.)
- Organizational and collaboration skill to manage multiple and changing functional and service priorities.
- Analytical problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills to assess and respond quickly to evolving emergency situations.
- Proficiency in software applications including MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Strong communication skills to build cooperative working relationships with external stakeholders.
- Must be able to satisfy minimum fitness for duty requirements outlined in the Canadian Railway Medical Guidelines Handbook for Safety Critical roles.
- Knowledge of transportation operations principles, practices, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements governing passenger rail services (e.g., Transport Canada (TC), Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), etc.) is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of operational management principles within a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Environmental, safety, and/or regulatory transportation courses or certifications.
- Previous experience as Rail Traffic Controller.
