- Work alongside McElhanney’s Consulting team of Highway Engineers, Inspectors and Designers and potentially with other Consultancies and contractors.
- McElhanney’s Survey branches have industry leading capabilities in Surveying, Scanning, RPAS/drone operations, Bathymetry, LiDAR and remote sensing, line locating and GIS, offering the opportunity to expand knowledge and contribute to improving and implementing processes between the design and survey teams.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required, as well as pre-site access testing as per client requirements.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License is mandatory.
- Work alongside McElhanney Site Inspectors and Engineers on site as part of the Consultant’s Engineering team, offering the chance to learn construction management.
- Field completion of surveys in support of Highway construction, rehabilitation and maintenance to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (AT) specifications and methods.
- Tasks would include preliminary topographic surveys, slope staking, layout of alignments, grades and features, quantity measurements, RPAS/drone operations and field adjustments.
- Work with the latest generation of conventional instruments, RPAS/drones and emerging technologies. We strive to provide the client with the highest levels of service and commit to support field staff with the appropriate resources and equipment required to complete the task.
- Work with Project Managers to understand objectives, budgets, schedules and timeframes.
- McElhanney operates a fleet of over 50 RPAS/drones with a program to continually develop staff and processes. We can provide the necessary training to qualify for Advanced Certification.
- Where appropriate work semi autonomously to manage surveying tasks, fully supported by a project team.
- Ensure implementation of quality assurance, safety, and policy compliance.
- Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or relatable subject with at least 3 years of previous experience in a similar role. A higher level of experience in surveying, construction or engineering will be considered if no diploma is held.
- Understanding of Highway construction processes and principles.
- Competence in the fundamentals and use of survey instrumentation. Experience in the use of Trimbles Road package is an asset but not essential.
- Assignments require a willingness to work up to 12 hours per day and some projects will require working away from home for extended periods.
- Physical ability to work on varied terrain, potentially over long days and the ability to lift heavy equipment.
