Job Description:Wood is currently recruiting for a Junior (EIT) Structural Engineer. This position will be seated within our St. John's, NL office and will be part of the structural engineering team delivering projects in the Power & Process industry.Within this role you will be involved with structural analysis and designs of steel and reinforced concrete for buildings, equipment foundations, substation structures / foundations, pipe racks, miscellaneous structures, tank foundations, and design of building envelope including roofing and walls.You will work closely with the team, in a supportive environment, while receiving guidance, direction, and mentorship to help build your skills and understanding of engineering methods and best practices.Responsibilities:
  • Perform a variety of routine tasks directed by lead
  • Contribute ideas, suggestion, and solutions to problems within a team environment
  • Collect and evaluate data, and develops plans for assignments that may involve design application
  • Prepare simple plans and designs, calculations, layouts, sketches, specifications and bills of material with guidance of more experienced Engineers
  • Carrie out routine analysis and work in accordance with instructions
  • Assist more experienced Structural Engineers with specific aspects of more complex tasks
  • Assist with the specification and selection of equipment to meet project criteria
  • Initiate the exchange of required technical concepts and information with the Design staff and other disciplines
  • Prepare reports and make recommendations on the solution of technical problems within the scope of assignment
  • Participate in design reviews and record meeting minutes
  • Technical writing (client reports, equipment specifications, construction specifications)
  • Site visits to client facilities, and site inspections for civil / structural projects
Qualifications:
  • University degree in civil engineering
  • Eligible or registered as an Engineer-in-training (EIT)
  • 0-5 years of experience with eagerness to learn
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organization skills to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills are mandatory
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate across the project / contract interfaces
  • Skills in Staad Foundation, Risa 3D, Staad.pro, AutoCad, and 3D Cad modeling will be considered an asset
