Job Description: Description of Position:
We are seeking instructors to teach a variety of courses within the Psychology Department. Experience in teaching both in traditional lecture format and online is preferred. Work available is dependent upon the enrollment in any particular term. This posting is for creating a pool of instructors who may be offered a contract in the Fall term or a future term.
The instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering lectures, drafting and marking assignments, quizzes, and examinations, posting and holding regular office hours, and communicating with students through email and/or a learning management system regarding the course material. In addition to the teaching responsibilities, the instructor is expected to be available to participate in departmental affairs, such as attending meetings. The instructor must be residing in British Columbia by the time classes start in May and remain in BC for the duration of the teaching appointment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain currency and strive for excellence in instructional practices and approaches.
- Maintain currency in relevant subject areas.
- Ensure effective use of available class time, and maintain appropriate office hours to ensure availability for student consultation.
- Maintain collegial working relationships.
- As needed, participate in program design and review.
- Be a positive and active contributor to the Department of Psychology, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Community Programs, and the College.
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Psychology or Neuroscience from a recognized graduate program is required. Degrees in Counselling or Educational Psychology do not meet this requirement. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset. Experience in teaching both in traditional lecture format and online is preferred. Additional required qualifications include excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and ability to work with culturally diverse groups of students. Preference will be given to applicants able to teach a broad range of psychology courses.
Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
