This position involves moderately complex clerical and typing work in the Community Safety Department. The incumbent is responsible for work which involves initiative in planning the sequence of duties and the methods to be employed. Further duties include performing transcription tasks using a variety of methods, as well as word processing reports, letters, memos and forms. An incumbent enters members’ leave on computer (JUSTIN) and performs other related querying and data entry duties as required. Additional duties may also include preparing and maintaining a variety of records and statistics including taking meeting minutes and entering traffic violations in TSMIT, develops, revises and/or implements work methods, forms and procedures, and interprets moderately complex departmental rules, regulations and procedures. Performs other related work as required.Qualifications include up to high school graduation including or supplemented by courses in typewriting, word processing and standard commercial subjects and considerable experience as a Clerk Typist II; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of standard clerical procedures and the ability to use common office equipment. Sound knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures which govern departmental activities. An incumbent should be able to use software programs including MS Word, and Start-Stop Omniversal. Working knowledge of JUSTIN, PRIME, TEAM, and TSMIT would be an asset. Sound knowledge of business English in written and oral form. Ability to deal effectively with internal and external clients. High typing speed with high accuracy and transcription of lengthy documents experience is required. Police/criminal justice environment experience preferred.
