Women's College Hospital is committed to patient safety as a key professional value and an essential component of daily practice.An exciting temporary full-time (2-year) opportunity exists as Research Assistant I at Women's College Hospital under the direction of the Cardiology and Diabetes Research programs.
The key purpose of the Research Assistant will be to perform research activities for each program, specifically: data collection on cardiovascular testing from char reviews of women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer, a research study led by Dr. Husam Abdel-Qadir, and coordinating operations for Dr. Lega's research program.Summary of Duties:
  • Provide key administrative and logistical support for multiple projects in the research program
  • Supervise summer research students who will be collecting data for the same study
  • Assist with submission of manuscripts to scientific journals - may involve writing, editing, creating tables, figures, proof reading, preparation of cover letter, coordinating documents to sign, electronic submission
  • Submit and maintain ethics applications locally and for participating study sites
  • Financial management and reporting for multiple accounts, including invoicing, reconciling revenue expense reports, budget projections, and reporting on a quarterly and annual basis. Complete review of medical records to collect research data
  • Manage data creation plans (DCP) and other research documents required for population-based research using ICES Ontario administrative databases
  • Complete data entry and quality control ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data collection; may investigate missing or invalid data and prepare data sets
  • Communicate with Research Coordinator and/or Principal Investigator to provide updates
  • Schedule, attend, and manage research meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes
  • Maintain and regularly update research literature library, including performing literature searches using PubMed, Medline or other health sciences databases, and producing annotated bibliographies
  • Provide other administrative support as required, including filing, photocopying, acquiring signatures and CV maintenance
  • Maintain an up to date CV using Common CV
  • May assist team members with preparing materials for proposals, progress reports, presentations, and publications
  • May assist in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and the interpretation of results

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a Health Sciences
  • Minimum one year experience in a health research setting required
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Experience supervising and supporting students in a research setting
  • Experience in project management or collaboration
  • Good understanding of research design and research ethics
  • Experience in scheduling and managing meeting calendar, creating and managing tasks
  • Proficiency with EndNote bibliographic software to manage references is preferred
  • Mastery of MS Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Access and Word
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
  • Experience with managing budgets and finances
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women's College Hospital
