Locum Pediatric EndocrinologistBC Children’s Hospital & The University of British ColumbiaPart-time Locum – 0.7 FTE, 13-month termVancouver, British Columbia, CanadaGeneral InformationThe Pediatric Endocrinologist reports to Clinical Professor and Head, Division of Endocrinology, and is a member of the Division of Endocrinology at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH), working with a team of nine clinical faculty and one scientist, in addition to a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals. The Division is affiliated as faculty with The Department of Pediatrics at The University of British Columbia (UBC).The Pediatric Endocrinologist will wholeheartedly participate in the Vision of the Division: Empowered patients, exemplary team, ever-evolving care, and excellence in education and research. The Division aims to maintain its status of academic excellence through ongoing clinical and pre-clinical/discovery research, and the education of future health care providers through a successful Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited fellowship training program. Programs serve pediatric ( 19) patients from across British Columbia, and include clinical programs for diabetes, endocrinology, and gender-affirming care.Specific AccountabilitiesMedical Expertise – Division of Endocrinology
Diabetes Program: care is provided at diagnosis in the Diabetes Day Program and then throughout childhood and adolescence in the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic. The program also provides care through outreach (Abbotsford, Prince George, Yukon) and telehealth clinics.
Endocrinology Program: consultation service for pediatric patients with possible or confirmed endocrine diagnoses. The program includes outreach clinics (Prince George, Abbotsford, Kelowna).
Gender Program: provides information and treatment regarding pubertal blockade and gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender and gender-nonconforming youth. The team (Endocrinologist, Endocrine Nurse Clinician and Social Worker) work in partnership with BCCH and community mental health professionals as well as Trans Care BC.
Clinical Care
Participate in outpatient clinics in endocrinology, diabetes and gender, as well as in-patient service and calls.
Education & Academic Teaching
Academic rounds and fellow/resident teaching.
Participate in academic endeavours (i.e. research and/or quality improvement projects) that align with the divisional vision and priorities.
QualificationsThis position requires a Medical Doctor degree with current licensure or eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia; Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatrics; and Fellowship training in Endocrinology (or equivalents).
