- Understanding scope of practice of the nurse practitioner along with responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Consulting with and/or referring clients to other health-care providers at any point in the care continuum when the client’s condition is not within the nurse practitioner’s scope of practice or the individual nurse practitioner’s competence.
- Advocating for clients in relation to therapeutic interventions, health care access, the health care system and policy decisions that affect health and quality of life.
- Collaborating with members of the health care team to provide and promote interprofessional client-centred care at the individual, organizational and system levels.
- Contributing to a safe, inclusive environment for all through compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
- Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as an Extended Class RN and is a member in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of recent clinical experience in acute neurology, stroke required.
- Advanced nursing assessment skills and sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics.
- Knowledge of complex medical conditions
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of theories guiding adult learning principles and principles guiding health promotion activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of planning, developing and implementing education initiatives for health care providers and community members.
- Embraces a philosophy of patient and family centered care.
- Demonstrates leadership in clinical excellence.
- Assesses and provides services to clients, families and communities.

- Identification and management of chronic stable conditions.
